The Los Angeles City Council gave approval to George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson to build their planned $1 billion Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. It is set to break ground early next year with an eye toward a 2021 opening.
The museum will be built on seven acres in Exposition Park near Lucas’ alma mater, University of Southern California. It will include their paintings, illustrations and movie memorabilia.
According to Variety, the museum will house Luke Skywalker’s first light saber, Darth Vader’s iconic helmet, and memorabilia from Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and The Ten Commandments.
