12 Days of Christmas 2017 - Day 3

The third day of the DSC 12 Days of Christmas began with a phone call to Siobhan. Siobhan is a single mom to Grace. Her family has suffered a tragic loss. Her second child recently passed away.

Michael, her friend and co-worker at Rady Children's Hospital, wrote to the DSC with the following,

Siobhan is one of the most genuine people I know, and she has been through more than most will ever endure. Siobhan recently lost her almost 4 year old son, Joey, to a very long and unforgiving illness. Joey was laid to rest last month. Now as a single mother to her 8 year old daughter, Grace, Siobhan is trying to put her life back together and continue on. Siobhan is selling her car tomorrow so she can pay her December bills. She will have nothing left for a Christmas for Grace.

Dave spoke with Siobhan about how her family is holding up:

Here are some comments from listeners about the third day of the DSC's 12 Days of Christmas.

Man I was crying my eyes out as soon as she said her kid passed away 5 1/2 weeks ago at the age of 3.

I'm at Chick-Fil-A and had to step outside because I could not contain myself. My Daughter is 16 and I'm always worried about making ends meet. This has given me a "reset" look on my life and I always count my blessings but man I have it easy compared to most and my heart goes out to that lady and her family.

I wish there was something I could do to help and when I can I will.

Love your show but this part always breaks my heart.

This should be a lesson to EVERYONE to count your blessings and go hug your kids. My kids at school and I just sent her a text to let her know how much I love her.

I work in Escondido, but I live in Imperial Beach.
I’m leaving work now, a blubbery mess, after only having been here an hour, to rush home and hug my 4 year old daughter.
Your persistence in getting a hold of that young woman definitely paid off. Cheers, DSC.
