The ninth day of the DSC's 12 Days of Christmas starts with a call to Brandon, a single dad who contacted the DSC about himself and his daughter, Hayden.
Here's what Brandon had to say about his family:
I'm a single dad who lost his job day before Thanksgiving and it's been rough. I'm about to lose my car, can't afford anything for my daughter for Xmas, and it's really bowing my spirit.
I am a hard-working construction worker and a good father, I just want to be able to keep my car and get my kiddo something for the holidays. An empty tree sucks for a 9 year old.
Listen as Dave explains to Brandon that they're going to receive $1,000 to help for the holidays:

It's no doubt that we have the best listeners on the planet, and here are some of their reactions to today's recipient, Brandon:
It’s ok that I have cried my makeup off and have puffy eyes for 9 Days now!!! My faith in humanity has been renewed. Thank you for doing this!!! ????
Dave and Crew,
I wanted to write to you about your 12 days of Christmas, thankfully not because I am in need of any help, or am trying to get put on your list of recipients. I want to write to you about what you do for this community. I have listened to you since 1997, and to me you are as much a part of San Diego as the beach, the Padres, or even Balboa Park. You are all family to me, and I count myself thankful to have been able to listen to you all around the world as I travel with the Army.
I’m writing to you all because I hope you realize that you aren’t just helping the 12 people who receive your money and your support. You are helping everyone here in San Diego, to remember the true meaning of Christmas. As I listen to you, and hear the stories of those much less fortunate than I, I realize just how small some of my problems are. You help those in need come together with so many who remember, and choose to help. Your 12 days of Christmas may be difficult at times, and hard to push through with people not answering, or otherwise making the effort all the more difficult, but please remember that people like me see it as a gift too. Your phone calls on those 12 days don’t just help 12 families, they help thousands, whose lives can be changed just by listening, by learning, and by appreciating all the wonderful things in our lives. I count you all as one of those wonderful things to me. Thank you for making my Christmas spirit come alive, and for being there for so many amazing years.
I truly “Love Your Show”, and count you “DJ’s” as “real heroes”.
Our elected leaders might be the most ineffective and feckless in the nation, but NO ONE comes to the rescue like a San Diegan. Your 12 days of Christmas lifts our spirits and brings peace to our hearts. I have been listening to the DSC since 1992 and your largesse has become legendary.
Love you, love this town.
Dear Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw (and Company),
If you ever want to see a Big Burly Contractor cry like a baby, just sit in with me while you perform any 12 Days skit. It takes me back to my own childhood when my struggling, single , working mom, with no money for Christmas presents, was given a hand up by one of the Doctors she worked with. Part of that help was that he had his three children each pull one of their presents (not knowing what was inside) from under their Christmas tree and pass them on to me so that I could have presents to open. I'll never forget the blue and gold beenie with the big chi chi ball on the top (very fashionable for an eight year old boy in 1975).
Keep up the good work and I'll let the tears flow.
P.S. The tears are an especially great look when I'm out on a jobsite.
In case you haven't heard them all:
