Teddy Bear Toss Shatters Record at Hockey Game

Posted: Updated:

A shower of stuffed animals launched onto the ice during a minor league hockey game Tuesday night broke a world record.

It was raining teddy bears in Hershey, Pennsylvania, as the Hershey Bears, a minor league affiliate of the Washington Capitals, took on the Binghamton Devils.

Fans were encouraged to bring stuffed animals and throw them after Bears scored their first goal. Known as the teddy bear toss, it's a holiday season tradition for ice hockey games across the country.

But Tuesday's toss was a little different: Fans broke a world record, throwing down 34,798 teddy bears in just one joyous night.

The stuffed animals will be donated to about 30 area charities throughout the holiday season.
